EV Charging Stats for 2024 So Far
The electric vehicle (EV) revolution is well underway in the UK, and the numbers don't lie! Here's a look at some key statistics for the first half of 2024:
Charging Infrastructure on the Rise
There's a clear surge in public EV charging points across the UK. By June 2024, a whopping 64,000 charging points were operational, representing a significant 46% increase year-on-year. This translates to over 20,000 new charging devices installed since June 2023 – a testament to the growing demand for accessible EV charging.
Notably, London takes the lead with nearly a third (32%) of all public charging points in the UK, catering to the high concentration of electric vehicles in the capital.
Electric Vehicles Gaining Momentum
The popularity of EVs is undeniable. Nearly a quarter (23.5%) of new car registrations in the UK between January and April 2024 were plug-in electric vehicles, including hybrids. Londoners seem to be embracing EVs at an even faster pace, with a third (33%) of survey respondents reporting they already own an electric car – the highest percentage compared to any other region in the UK.
As of June 2024, there are over 1.8 million electric vehicles on UK roads, with over 1.1 million being fully electric.
A Booming Industry
The growth of the EV market translates to a thriving industry. Analysis of EV charging stats suggests a projected industry revenue of £149 billion in 2024, a significant 46% increase from the previous year. This underlines the immense potential of the EV charging sector.
Additionally, June 2024 saw a surge in electric car registrations, with almost 1 in 5 (19%) new car registrations being electric vehicles. This translates to over 34,000 new electric cars hitting the road just in that month!
